It's illegal to buy or discharge fireworks in most municipalities in BC. Sadly there is a huge grey market operating in the regional districts between our town and Nanaimo, same goes for the area around Duncan. So asshats who like loud noises make this time of year kinda scary for many pets and if we hadn't had so much rain over the past few weeks there would have been concerns over brush fires too. The police are too busy watching traffic or on the highway to stop most offenders, who face a fine if caught. It's annoying but until the regional districts man up and ban the sales, we're stuck with it.
