My daughter (10 y/o) and I attended the Great American Model and Talent Search this past weekend (11/19/04) in LA along with my neighbor and her five y/o son. I've been reading alot of e-mails about how this company is a scam. I believe differently and just feel that they are disappointed that nothing really became of what they had hoped for and/or because they didn't get thousands of dollars for their child's role in a part. After the search, my neighbor's son was told he would be getting a letter. Unfortunately, my daughter's name was not called. I do realize that they say that just because their name was not called, does not mean it's the end...it's an on-going process. My concern is my daughter cried and cried after returning to our room and could not understand why her name was not called. She told me she had tried very hard and then asked if whether or not she was beautiful and wondered why she was good enough to attend the search but not good enough to win. We went into this knowing that there are no guarantees and we were looking at it as a mother and daughter vacation. I guess she forgot about that conversation. I did what I could to make her feel better and she apparently is doing better, but what do I do if they never call her and she wants to attend another open call? Should I allow her to go, in fear she would not get called again and her self esteem plumits? PLEASE ADVISE.

That's how these things work. EVERYONE gets a letter. Just a few weeks later. They'll say something like they reconsidered etc. Tell her what a scam is and how she can still dream and work for her goal. But that some people are out to hurt innocent people, especially children. That it has nothing to do with her & yes she is beautiful. Sounds more to me like you are more hurt than your child perhaps. By the time you read this she will probably have that letter or phone call or email.
