I've had both incidences, but not at the same time. I've had males take more of an interest in caring for the chicks than the female. I've also had the female chatter when the male comes around which I believe is the more natural event.

I'd just leave the male in with the female as long as he is backing off when she insists. She just may want a turn to brood her new family. I'd keep a close eye on them when the new chicks arive. Good luck!
