Well I guess only time will tell if one of my hens will work out to raise chicks some day!

The first egg was kicked out of the nest monday. I knew why as soon as I picked it up, very light, dry, would have felt very wrong to the foster parents as they moved it or tried to turn it. The next egg is due to hatch friday. Momma Tiel and Poppa Tiel hatched their own chick today (first of 2), and for now they have all 9 remaining quail eggs.

Thanks for the advice everyone and thanks for the link Rhonda. It is good to know I am not the only one who can't offer game starter. I have 50# on order at the local feed store but it is a seasonal product unless I want to buy a whole batch/pallet (no thanks!), and spring where I am is a long way away.
