Very common cause of death in small animals. Every day when you feed and check your animals you should tap the end of a water bottles to make sure the ball moves and your finger comes out wet. This should just become a habit. If possible having 2 bottles is a very good idea. We lost a rabbit recently to a bottle that was apparently working sporadically so it seemed to work when we checked it but the rabbit wasn't getting enough water out of it. It wasn't until after he died and I went to give the bottle to another cage that I tapped it and it failed to work.
