Our buttons used to do that crazy flying / jumping thing at night too - which is when we found out that buttons seem to be prone to nightfrights like some other birds are (cockatiels, for example). Anyway, try putting a night light near the cage so that your buttons can see their environment if they happen to wake up in the middle of the night.

We have one of those big glowey green night lights hooked up to the top back corner of each cage on the outside. Those kind of nightlights don't get hot so there is no risk of burning the cage covers and they still provide enough light to stop the nightfrights. We've had no nightfrights since.

Hope this helps!

-Sandy
