Hey Jade, you're in Australia! I'm not so far away, just over in New Zealand (ok that is still kind of far away but compared to America...) Its getting hot over here too and the grass is a bit browner. Anyway, with my quails the male picked on the lighter coloured female and did not mate with her which I've read sometimes happens. What colours are your girls? In my case I had to remove the silver female before the cinnamon one would nest but I don't think that would always happen with different coloured females. Another time I've had a silver girl and a normal girl on the same nest.
