You have to dip their fit in warm water. Some people get a warm damp towel and let them walk on it for a while. You do have to get the poop off asap. Make sure the cage is clean as well.

I don't think you can catch anything but someone chime in to correct me. I've heard chickens can catch a certain illness from a quail. The survival rate is supposedly very low for the chicken :(. Hope that helps
