The breeder/ranch isn't exactly near to me...but they are on my husband's route back home from where he is working at the moment. I don't really want to buy an incubator at this point...I was planning to start with already hatched chicks. Since this is the only place I can get them at this time, I don't think I want adults, as I have read that adults who haven't been tamed as babies won't be likely to let me handle them.

I figured if I got 4-6 chicks, as I said in my original post, that it would be a good start and not too many for me to deal with if they needed to be separated. I don't have a lot of experience with birds but I do have a lot of experience with animals in general, so I'm not concerned with working out housing if they need to be separated.

I guess the most pertinent advice to my situation was that I should probably get one male with a few females or just a few females. I will let my husband know for when he goes to pick some out for me. Thanks!
