Hi Julian,

I can't really say how they live in the wild, but I know from experience, that they do best in pairs, unless they have grown up as chicks together. Even then, plucking can happen. We've had one male with two hens. They lived peaceably for a while, but then some plucking started. We even had a male and female together; they were such a sweet little pair! The female started losing her feathers and we thought she was sick. We put the heat lamp on her and started treating her like a sick bird, but nothing helped. Finally, we took her away from her beloved partner, and amazingly, she got well and her feathers grew back in! We never once saw him peck her, but he was the culprit, alright! So, you never know. I guess everyone has to figure out what works best for them.
