I don't grow sprouts like alfalfa or something, but what I do is growing some finch seed for them. I put finch seed on top of a shallow dish filled with wood shavings (which I use as aviary floor cover), soak it in a lot of water first for an hour or so, and then pour the excess water off. I keep it moist at all times, placed in a spot near a window. After a few days the first green shoots will come out and I let it grow until the shoots are about 2 - 3 inches high, then place it in the aviary. My buttons and finches are absolutely crazy about that stuff! (I tried various seed mixes, finch, parakeet, and canary, but my finch seed seems to grow the best and produces various little leafs and grass type stuff.)

Hope that helps!
