Thanks, Trina, I will do that and separate them long enough.

I'm in Georgia, so the weather is not an issue, plus my aviary is indoors anyway. It's a former sunroom and I have a separate heather in there since it doesn't have the central heating. I have finches in there that shouldn't get cold temperatures either, so I always try to keep it above 65 if possible. (In winter we had a few very cold nights where it might have dropped down to 60 in the room, but now it's always at least 70.)
I thought about using the wire top of an unused birdcage, and secure the bottoms additionally with finer mesh because I know that the babies are so tiny that they might even get out of finch cages. This way the other quail could not only hear but also see them, which wouldn't be the case with a wooden frame. I would also pad the top so the mother doesn't get hurt if she gets nervous in there in the beginning and boinks.
