I understand that they CAN live longer than 2 to 4 years depending on the gender, however, in captivity the average age is two years for females and 4 years for males. I've had females live as long as 5 1/2 years when giving them extra calcium, protein and clean living environment along with slowing down the egg laying process and some of my males are six years now and are still going strong.
