Hey Anne. I wanted to ask about your little guy. I think maybe you could give him a chance before you do anything drastic. Is he eating or drinking at all? Did you try the hobble thing? It could be worth a try even if you think it's too late. Obviously you now know in the future that this problem can be cured if you treat it as early as possible, but it could still be worth a try. Please think about trying it & give him a chance. I don't like to give up on a pet until I've tried everything, unless of course it's suffering terribly & it's the only option. I know there have been people on this board who have had quails disabled with straddle leg, but they have still had happy lives, they just needed a bit of special care. If you feel you can't give him extra attention is there anyone on this board who lives near you & could take him in? Are you in the USA or UK? If you do decide that he should be put to sleep then I really wouldn't try to do it yourself, it would be best to take him to a vet, that way it will be painless & quick & he won't suffer any more. It doesn't cost that much to have a bird euthanised & doing it yourself can be pretty traumatic. I know some people do that, but I would never personally do it myself.

Let us know how you're getting he's getting on, & what you decide to do.
