Subject: Problems

We had a female bird die yesterday. Thomas said she was ok when he went to school, but I found her about 11:00. She had something nasty protruding from her vent; Thomas thought it might be intestines.

Last night I checked on the birds and noticed there were red bark chips in Nutmeg's cage. Thinking it was just the bark (because there were so many), I didn't do any further checking. (It was very late and I was exhausted from all the homework!) This morning Thomas brought Nutmeg to me with a serious problem, I think. He says it appears that she has a prolapse. He cleaned the blood off with peroxide. She is under a heat lamp and seems to be fine otherwise. When I get close to her cage, she gives me that stay-away-from-me chirp. We both remember reading about another bird with a prolapse, but can't remember the details. Is there anything we can do for her, other than take her to the vet? This day is booked, so there is no time for the vet. We have an unwell child to also look after.
