Hmmmm... that is interesting about repeatedly trying to push the prolapse back in. I don't know if it would do any good at this point to try to push it in again, now that it is dried and black. Nutmeg was like this Wednesday night, but we did not know it. If we had tried to help her then, the outcome may have been different. Thomas was up late with lots of homework and didn't even check the birds before going to bed late. I had been up late with David doing homework, and went in the bird room to turn off the light. I noticed some red bark scattered around Nutmeg's cage. I looked at it and wondered why there was red bark in her cage. If it had been in one spot, I would have known it was blood, but it was randomly scattered. (I realized later that it was scattered because of the way she scoots around.) I was very tired, and just went to bed. The next morning Thomas discovered the problem right before school. It was too late to work on her then, and we didn't even know what to do. I had an appointment and had to leave also. So by the time school was out, the necrosis had already started to set in. That is one reason I am so surprised she is still alive.

My personal opinion is that the females are not getting enough calcium. They get grit and occasional boiled egg, but not enough. I've talked to Thomas about this, but he is busy with school. I'm going to find a liquid calcium, and perhaps that will prevent this from happening again. We always have to learn the hard way.

Thank you, Trina, for all the help you've given us! We will keep everyone posted about this tenacious little bird!
