Subject: potting soil as bedding

Would organic potting soil be good for bedding? I have a terrarium four feet long and thinking about adding a few inches of soil with some live plants. Its the type of soil sold in large bags available in home depot or nurseries... and its pretty cheap too. Have not heard of anyone suggesting soil as bedding so would like to know if its safe. Also could this help reduce the frequency to change or clean the cage? Any experience with soil???
