Hi Charlie & welcome to the board!
Rhonda said it best here in regards to the occasional, tame button. I do agree that this species is very skittish in it's nature, but there are certain individuals who elect to become tame with their keepers. I do not agree with stressing or forcing the issue with extremely skittish quail, but with gentleness, time, respect and offering food tidbits etc, you never know. If a quail remains skittish, that should be respected and love them anyways. There are a couple of heart-warming stories about tame quails that Michele, the moderator of this board had, "Baby Spaz" and "Bunny". Another friend from this board, who sadly, has passed on, had an extremely tame quail named "Spazy" which was a cherished pet. I have the priviledge of sharing my life with a very sweet male button named "Sweetpea" which I raised from the egg(was orphaned). This quail is so tame and cuddly, hard to believe it is a button...he will be six in May!
Hope to see you more on the board!
