Both posts are accurate. We slipped some eggs due to hatch within a week under a sitting hen. (The eggs were in an incubator. We were going on vacation and needed a hen to take care of any hatched chicks. Bad miscalculation!) Immediately, her partner knew those eggs didn't belong, and he started attacking them, killing two almost viable chicks! It happened so quickly, that we couldn't act fast enough to save but one egg. We've also put incubated chicks in with their parents. Didn't work, and they had to go back to the brooder. If any buttons do hatch, here is a link with care instructions, if you need it. http://www.cyberquail.com/careofchicks.html
