Hey there,

I would suggest getting adult birds to start out with. The chicks, and even adults can get very stressed very quickly. But an adult should be able to handle it better. Once your dog is used to them, however, I think it would be okay to maybe hatch a few. But remember, seven (or however many) little button chicks turn into seven (or however many) adult quail. They are adorable in both states of life, but they can be a bit to handle sometimes.

If YOU smell like candles, that won't be such a big deal. If your whole house smell of strongly scented candles, then that might be an issue. We've burnt a candle every now and then, but we don't use them all the time. You should be fine. ;)
