Sorry to hear about your quail. There are others on this board that can give you good advice, but in the meantime, you did the right thing to separate them and keep them near each other, I think :) The little male, poor guy....I wouldn't try to open the eye, let things heal and hopefully it will open itself when it is ready. Get a warm light for him to keep warm while he is down like this. Offer him hard-boiled egg, cooled off and chopped up alittle. If you have a bird vet nearby, you may want him/her to check the injury but from my experience, good support care, warmth & eggs/mealworms go a long way towards the healing process, the body will heal well by itself as long as the extra care is there. Also, keep his cage covered to keep warmth in and stress levels down. Homeopathic remedies won't hurt either.
