"No news is good news." If only. Vanilla and Butterscotch have both gone the way of most of the other hatchlings in this house. I'm not sure what happened, they just didn't wake up in the morning. (Different mornings, about a week apart.) Vanilla had been acting somewhat slow and confused the night before and I found him in a corner of the brooder the next morning. Butterscotch was just as feisty and energetic as usual, but I found him in the same corner the next week.

I wonder if Butterscotch might have boinked himself into oblivion. Both he and Chocolate had grown into the stage where they jumped at any sound or movement. The brooder was as safe as I could make it (I thought) with bubble wrap and nylon mesh covering the lid, but last week Chocolate boinked right into the heat lamp, which was inside the brooder. He was a little stunned and staggered around a bit before laying down in the same corner where the other two went, but later that evening he seemed fine. He's doing great now, making lots of noise and eating like a pig. I moved the lamp out of the brooder (now it shines down through the mesh) right away, but I still wonder if that's what happened to Butterscotch.

Chocolate and George are both in good shape. They're both blue-breasted males it seems. Chocolate has the start of a bib already and has identical colors to George. It's tempting to try to get a female or two for the boys, but I think I'm done with hatching eggs.
