OK, I googled it and found some interesting articles:

I didn't know that the sex is determined by the female and can be influenced by their diet!

And this one tells me that chickens and turkeys can lay fertile eggs 70 (!) days after copulation!

However, the egg takes only about a day to develop from the ovum to a fully shelled egg.
