They could eat broccoli both ways but it is more nutritious raw. They can eat finch food but only as a treat. They should eat turkey or gamebird crumble with at least 22% protein. Protein is very important and they don't get much from seed. I buy mine at the local feed store. They can eat their own eggs or chickens. You can even give them the shell crushed up. The grit I give is an oyster shell flaked charcoal mix. I buy the parakeet/finch kind. It provides them with needed calcium for egg laying. Taming can be done best by going really slow, feeding mealworms out of your hand and by chattering softly to them. Not all will tame but it will help letting them out to be by you in your room like you said. I wouldn't hold them a ton until they are more comfortable with you. It freaks them out worse. Maybe let them walk onto your outstretched hand.
