Hey Anna,

Is the cup in the brooder so the chick can stay warm? When we did this, we put our chick in a shallow bowl that had bread placed in the middle. The chick had a "moat" around the bread, so he could move about. We also had food and water placed where he could get it.

Chicks eat and drink quite a bit. Maybe you should try another method. We used embroidery thread, but twine would work. We tied the thread around one leg and knotted it, not too tightly, so the leg isn't damaged. Then we tied the thread around the other leg, leaving enough space in between to the chick could get around. If you've got someone to help you with this procedure, you might get better results.
