Kristin, if you were a single female, and someone gave you an agressive male, you would most likely rip his hair out, too! Buttons who have not grown up with each other must be introduced to each other slowly. A good way is to put them in a cage together, but separated by a piece of cardboard that has some small holes in it. That way they can smell each other, hear each other. Eventually, you can remove the cardboard to see it they get along, perhaps for short periods of time at first. Keep a watch on them to make sure there is no fighting.

We just had a male lose his mate. We gave him another female, and he grabbed her by the head and started shaking her around. Needless to say, he is alone. He was never violent with his partner, but he probably viewed this hen as an intruder.

Your best bet would be a male/female. That is the natural scheme of things. Good luck!
