Hi Trina,

The first bird that died was one of the original birds. Her name was Marble and she was a favorite. The second bird was one of Marble's chicks, named Jaime, and I can't remember how old she was. But she was a named bird that Thomas liked. The problem was that Thomas didn't check the birds before he went to school. I had re-injured my arm and needed help with fixing the lunches. Things were just chaotic that day. Later on, I thought about checking on the birds, but just didn't, because I didn't feel well. I didn't realize Thomas had not. Anyway, they were out of water, and these two particular birds got dehydrated, apparently to the point of not being able to recover. So, it was a preventable accident. Unfortunately, a hard lesson to learn. Thank you for your sympathy.

Marble left behind 5 eggs which we are incubating. Thomas will use this as part of his ninth grade science project in the fall, and also hopefully get a female chick from Marble that he can keep. We had a great deal of trouble regulating the incubator last night; think we got in under control now. So, maybe in a few weeks, we may be announcing babies! (And I am probably INSANE!!!)
