Hi Terri,

Do you have skid-free plastic matting in the brooder? That is the first thing you need, if you don't have it. You can buy it at the grocery store with the paper/plastic products. If you aren't able to get that, try paper towels.

The next thing is to either tie the bird's legs with some twine or embroidery floss (not red) or tape them (surgical tape works best). You will need another person to help you hold the bird, while you do the mending. You want the legs to be tied tight enough to hold them straight, but loose enough so the bird can move about. Tie the thread around one leg and knot it (not too tightly so that it digs into the skin), then tie the next leg and knot it. Surgical tape doesn't stick to their skin over time -- but tape does get dirty with food and water quicker than twine.

We have had good success using this method. Hope it works for you.
