Hi Ken,

It's my understanding that you cannot sex a button until the bird is mature. Then there are several ways you can tell the sex, and behavior certainly does play a part. But I believe your chicks' behavior is normal for all chicks.

If your chicks are only four days old, they need to be in a brooder with a heat lamp on them to keep them warm. (About 95 degrees) Otherwise, they will die. I don't think I would separate them while they are so young.

Regarding taming, when they are older, you can give them meal worms to try to tame them. My son, Thomas, holds his birds and talks to them, and some of the birds will sit quietly in his hands.
