Subject: Moving a mom?

When I went to my aviary this morning to check on my birds I saw a quail chick sitting towards the back of it! And I didn't even know one of my quails had been nesting! I had a thorough look around and found her nest in a very hard to see hiding place in a log. Of course she ran off when she saw me and I found that she had another chick just hatched.

The only problem is that my aviary isn't a good place for quail chicks. There are 7 other quails and 30 or so budgies. One of my males actually tried to peck the chick! :( I've put a small cage over the top of them to keep the others away for now but that won’t be much use once they want to start moving around.

So I'm thinking of relocating her to a smaller aviary that I'm currently not using once all the chicks have hatched but I've had problems with quail moms abandoning their chicks before and I don't want her to do the same if I move her to an unfamiliar place. Does anyone know if moms are likely to abandon their chicks if they're moved?

Any advice would be great! Thanks! :)
