Hi Cindy,
First of all, glad you have read "That Quail, Robert" ...it is my absolute favourite book and I have three copies(one of which is displayed on a special stand on this computer table..it's the best story ever and is a must read for anyone, especially quail people!) Your single quail would probably be happier with a friend. I have an extremely tame button quail called "SweetPea" who is bonded to me. He gets lonely if he doesn't have other button quail within sight, but, beats the daylights out of them if he is with them, so, he is just happy to see them, and get attention from myself when I get a chance to have him out. Does your quail crow? If he does, that means he is lonely and I would be tempted to get him a girlfriend. Others on this board have way more experience in this area and I'm sure, will be happy to add their advice.

Good Luck!
