Hi Amanda,

When the chicks mature, you can tell the males by a white "bib" on their necks. Also, the males have pink feathers around their vent. The males make a distinctive sound -- they crow and make a funny sound like heavy breathing. (I call it a "ghost" sound!) You can also observe them mating -- the agressive bird on top is the male!

What are you going to do with all those chicks??? Keep in mind that you do not have to incubate all the eggs that are laid. You have some options. You can simply through them away. Or you can collect them, boil them, and grind them up for the birds to eat. They love them! But I would caution you not to hatch out too many. They get to be quite a lot of work (and expense!) when you get too many, and it's not easy to find people that want them and will take good care of them.

Good luck!
