Thanks for the tips, especially about the food. I suspect I need a more substantial top on my brooder too. I just had some nylon mesh covering it.

I've rearranged the room to try to keep the brooder away from the heating & air conditioning vent, and I'm going to start leaving the door open so it should stay the same temperature as the rest of the house instead of heating up in the afternoon. I closed it up to keep the dog out because he could hear the chick and wanted to investigate. I have a baby gate I can put up to keep him out.

I think I'm going to go ahead and try again. I have my doubts about the eggs that are still in the incubator, but I'll give them until this weekend. If they don't hatch I'll get some more. (Maybe not quite so many next time.)
