Subject: Shell colors?

Although I said I wouldn't try again, I have a third clutch of eggs incubating. I've noticed among all these eggs that there's a lot of variation in shell color and markings. My current clutch has a mix of brown, green, and almost-white shells; some have large speckles, some have very fine speckles, and some have none at all.

Can you tell anything about the chick inside or the female that laid an egg by its colors and markings? Or is it more related to what the hen has been eating?

Dave
