Yeah, I've had quails who have mourned when their mate died. One of my guys Chas had really bad luck with his mates, he had 4 different girlfriends die over 2 years, after the last one, Smidge died I found him dead a week later. He wasn't himself at all, it's almost like he died of a broken heart :( I think animals feel loss just as much as we do :'(
