I don't want to give you false hope but rather a clue as to where your father was and what unit he may have been in. You mentioned that he left you a lot of pictures right? A picture is worth a thousand words literaly. Here are some things you want to look for in your pictures. LOOK at the shoulder patch on his right sleeve and try and make a copy of it. I believe if the patch is worn on the right it signafies his COMBAT UNIT. The unit he was serving with at that time. Now LOOK VERY CLOSE at pictures with either TRUCKS , JEEPS ect; you want a FRONT VIEW OF THE BUMPER as this is where the military STENCILES THE UNIT it BELONGS TO. 3rd and lastly try and see if any signs are legible with vietnamese writting on them they may give away his location in Nam.
Examples: Unit patches are worn on the shoulder of the uniform; example the BIG YELLOW PATCH WITH A HORSES HEAD FACING A WIDE BLACK LINE SEPERATING IT FROM THE OTHER HALF OF THE PATCH WITCH IS YELLOW< This Patch is the 1st CALVARY DIVISON, The BLACK PATCH WITH THE HEAD OF THE BALD EGALE ON IT belongs to the 101st AIRBORNE DIVISON and so on. BUMPER STENCILES look something like Black LETTERS ON AN OD GREEN BACKGROUND, COMPANY INFO ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND DIVISION INFO ON THE LEFT SIDE, I served with the 281st AHC (on the right) 10th CAB,1st AVN BDG (on the left). Vietnamese signs could say Nha Trang, Cu Chi, Tay Nin, Hue, Phu Bi, these are places in country vietnam.
