Subject: Looking for Marine who got his safety shot off his rifle when we got hit one day in nam 69 thru 70 (Name? Martin?)

While on patrol one day in nam we got hit bad by a machine gun.

Killed the 2nd and 3rd marine in the patrol instantly.

I was the 4th guy back.
The point man who's name I believe to be Martin couldn't shoot back because his safety was shot off during the fire fight.

When we got hit I leaped so far off the beaten path and landed in a way that I thru my back out of place so bad I could hardly lift my upper body up in the air.

but being as Martin was still down below us / alive / but couldn't use his m 16 I had to do something to try to save his butt.

I ended up waiting for the rounds to stop cuttn thru the leaves above my head.

I waited / it seemed like they'd never stop shootn, then finally their ammo belt clinked, so when they were stickn a new belt in I was able to lift up enough to toss a grenade into the bushes just 20 yds in front of me / sprayed 1 mag on top for good measure and was able to put a stop to this nighmare.

Now, I am tring to find Martin who made it thru yet another day of blood and body bags.

He was on his 2nd tour in nam and still a private because he would never take any crap orders from any of the 2nd gung ho leutenants we had with us.

Nothing personl but some of them had their heads up their butts.. Green as hell and thought 'we' were all invinsible.

Anyway.. Martin just didn't really care what they had to say nor did he agree with their patrol techniques but sure as heck knew how to stay alive while we were out together on partol.

One of the smartest bush grunts I'd ever run into while there.
I learned a heck of a lot from him.

He'd remember the day on what I call death hill.

A hill we were loosing 2 to 3 guys a day on each time we went on patrol.

There was only 1 way off this rotten hill they stuck us on as 3 sides were sheer rock cliff almost straight down.

We were dropped there to comb the side of some stupid mountain for underground hospitals.

Martin / if you're out there somewhere / get in touch with me.

We have a few stories to share and I'd like to thank you for teaching me the ropes.

I'm home / still alive and appreciate the education I got from ya while there..

Sure hope you or someone who knows Martin at this board see's this and gets a hold of me.
