Being someone who has PTSD, I can say he needs tO talk to others with it,so he will learn he is NOT ALONE, NOT WIERD, NOT WEAK, NOT CRAZY, AND MOST OF ALL HE DOSEN'T HAVE ANY THOUGHTS, HASN'T DONE ANYTHING THE REST OF US HAVEN'T GOT OR DONE.

He's not alone, even though there is no cure, he can learn to control it, not it control him.

I help do a self help group at the Birmingham, Alabama VA hospital (and have for about 7 years), that does not have an offical (DR. PHYCARATRIST) that sets in on the group, this works great as the guys talk more feely as they're not worried about what they say being written down and used against them.

Those groups that are led by so called professionals don't seem to work as well, they tend to talk down to the Vet, and in no way can a person who has been schooled but not been through what we have tell us how we feel and what we should do.

Another problem is most of the DRS and physic. are much younger than us, and age difference makes a diference.

IN our group we talk about ANY problems not just military (as any problem creates stress, and that is one thing we don't need), car problems, home problems, inlaw problems, kid problems, leaky faucet problems, to name a few.

We carry a call list of all 32 members and if we have a problem or just need to talk we can call someone 24/7 and just talk or meet somewhere for coffee or lunch.

We also incourage all family members to attend when they want to (this includes girl or boy friends, mothers fathers or just friends who want to understand).

I'd be proud to talk to him on the phone or by e-mail if he would like (or you if you would like).

The biggest thng we strive for is not to judge, as we each do enough of that of ourselves.

WISHING YOU AND YOUR FAMILY THE BEST WITH THIS PROBLEM!!!

Remember he is not strange just in a different group.
