Date Posted: Wed, Dec 14 2011, 21:12:08 I saw an obit in the paper last weekend for an RN that I used to work with. She was quite clearly addicted to pain pills at that time and I and a couple other recovering nurses tried to talk to her about getting help, but she was not going for it. She eventually got fired and I lost track of her. I heard through the grape vine that she was found dead in her bed by her room mate and it was indeed an overdose. So sad and preventable. She was 42 years young. It's a miracle that the same thing never happened to me. I once OD'd in my car at a convenience store and ended up on a vent for several days. I switched drugs thinking I might fare better with dilaudid rather than morphine. The dilaudid wasn't any friendlier to my body and even worse on my mind. Today I'm so grateful to be alive and healthy....albeit a bit fat :) We all have bitched and moaned about our monitoring programs, but for me, the fact that I'm alive and able to bitch my fool head off is a blessing. Really. The end goal is health and happiness...however that comes about. That's my I wish for us all. We're a special bunch and we are hardy and strong.
