Hi Liza-

Firstly, I hope you are not posting under your real name because the internet is a very public place. This is especially true if you plan on not revealing the DUI, which may not be a viable option anyway.

As for myself, I have never had an issue with alcohol, but did steal a small number of pills from one of my nursing jobs almost 13 years ago, and have paid an extreme price for it.

The good news for you is that you didn't do what I did so the penalty will be far less for your past DUI. Every state is different on exactly how they handle your situation. I would recommend that you go to the nurses & recovery forum on Allnurses.com and do a search on DUI & nursing school. I have been reading posts there for years and I am sure I have seen posts from folks with similar situations to yours.

Here's a link for you: http://allnurses.com/nurses-recovery/

No matter what happens, you WILL get through it okay if you choose to. You are not alone and you are not a bad person, despite how nursing may treat you, at least temporarily, because of your past.

Let us know how it goes and you will get more responses here.

Good luck & ***HUGS*** to you!

Catmom
