 "Sick and tired" is an AA expression. The addict/alcoholic has to be "sick and tired of being sick and tired" to consider changing.

I am not a big 12 step promoter, but may be you might consider going to Alanon to learn about addiction a bit. This would be far preferable to posting on anonymous boards seeking answers to what sounds like a profound tragedy.
