Mike, you obviously need to be educated a little more about the disease of addiction. If you think it is a choice then you are sadly mistaken. It is not. Are addicts selfish? yes. do they die sometimes? yes. Because it is almost impossible for an addict to quit without consequences and a program and help from other addicts. Some of us, in our sickness, become well and productive people and make amends and grow and help other addicts along the way. Before AA was started, there was little hope for us and most of us died. Now there is a solution. It is not the only solution today because so much research has been invested into this disease. There is hope. I wonder if you are so angry because you feel so much guilt that you did not help your fiance as much as you could before she died.
