I have mentioned before that when I started I was completely alone. No support groups, I didn't know other nurses had been though it or were currently in it. Didn't even think to surf the web for site like this one. You are so lucky to have this right away. I will say that all I had in the beginning was AA. At least it was something. I wasn't working. Only had one friend left. She was busy with her life, kids, boyfriend, work, and of course partying. So, it did give me some solace of sorts. At least I had another human being to talk that wasn't obligated to "tell on me." Like a counselor. There some really nice people there. However, the stronger I became emotionally, the more I felt like I was losing myself there. I totally wanted to drink- thinking maybe it wasn't such a problem etc. But, I went, listened, even talked. I could feel myself pulling away. Since I totally quit going is first time I had an honest conversation w/ myself. I am doing this to for the right reasons now- the meetings started to really make me resentful. But, in the beginning they helped for a while. I learned the lingo, got a sponsor, even went to birthday night, got my chips. The most important thing is that now I want it. That's really what this is all about. It's worth going , so at least you will know what goes on. BTW- every now and then I see an AA member out at store or whatever, sometimes they just walk past me, sometimes I get a brief hello. I guess they figure "I went back out." Sorry but that is such cult like behavior if you ask me. So, "Keep on keeping on." Annie [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
