I'm sorry I didn't comment on this earlier. It is truly wonderfully written and, frankly, scared me to death the first time I read it. I believe this was the very paragraph that made me put the book down for 24 hours. I couldn't sleep, kept waking up from bad dreams and worrying about Claire, and found myself crying at odd moments. Finally decided I had to 'face the music' and continue reading. So glad I did. Very powerful scene. -- Ladies of Lallybroch
