Subject: QOTD for Saturday June 30

The following quote is taken from An Echo in The Bone by Diana Gabaldon, Chapter 93, A Series of Short, Sharp Shocks. Copyright © 2009 by Diana Gabaldon. All rights reserved.
""…His own ship survived and limped in, badly damaged, but he saw the Euterpe swamped by a broaching wave, he said—I have no notion of what that is –” He waved away his own digression, annoyed. “She went down before his eyes. The Roberts – his ship – hung about in hopes of picking up survivors.” He swallowed. “There were none.”
“None,” I said blankly. I heard what he said but took no meaning from the words.
“He is dead,” Lord John said softly, and let go of my arm. “He is gone.”
From the kitchen came the smell of burning porridge."

[> My apologies that my Sat. a.m. plans changed at the last minute, and it's only now I've been able to get to the computer. I've enjoyed doing qotd this week, and I hope the hair-raising "It can't be!" quotes I chose haven't been too re-traumatizing ;). Stories are limp without good plot tension, and I am ever so grateful, and flummoxed, frequently, with Herself's mastery of said tension. Here's to book 8, when it comes, and some further resolution of, and relaxation from, the tension of Jamie's "death"! -- RedheidedLass, 12:34:31 06/30/12 Sat

[> Am I alone in believing along with John that Jamie was gone? I figured he'd come back in spirit, but I did think he was dead. -- jayn, 14:56:08 06/30/12 Sat

[> I remember reading this and starting to panic - then went back and read the chapter before it again - when we learned that Jamie's Entwerpe had sailed without him - and breathed a sigh of relief. We knew that he wasn't on it, even though John and Claire didn't know. -- Robin, 08:32:57 07/01/12 Sun

[> I think I thought Jamie was truly dead, too jayn. Must have been reading too fast near the end there, Robin, to catch what you did about ship sailing w/o him. The last 1/4 of that book y'all, my head was spinning . Then I got to catch my breath when Jamie showedup finally, and then *bam* the book was done. And years pass....sigh.And we remain ever faithful. -- RedheidedLass, 15:01:04 07/01/12 Sun

[> quote of the day -- Jen, 14:33:36 07/08/12 Sun

I just finished this book today, and now join everyone else in the waiting for the next book.
I had to put the book down for a while at the spot in the book where this quote is taken... I didn't want to know what Claire would do, thinking Jamie was dead. I'm dying to find out how all parties will react to Jamie knowing John Grey "had carnal knowledge of [Jamie's] wife."
