Here we have the Quote of the Day and book discussions.

Please click HERE to learn more about Quote of the Day.

When discussing the books please keep a few guidelines in mind. Thank you.

Just for fun - click HERE to read the Flame Warriors Guide. If you recognize yourself here it's probably time to take stock of things. :D ~ Judie

PLEASE NOTE - PLEASE NOTE - PLEASE NOTE!
Be forewarned that the book discussions encompass Diana's PUBLISHED BOOKS!
If you have not yet read the first 6 novels, The Companion/Through The Stones,
ALL the Lord John books (as of the end of 2007), or her short stories,
chances are you are going to encounter messages and/or QOTD passages that will contain "spoilers" in them.
And if you HAVE read the 6 main books but NOT the Companion/Through The Stones,
you may encounter two spoilers if they are ever quoted from - Part 11: Works in Progress.

Excerpts from Diana's unpublished works:

Discussions regarding Diana's "in progress" works are NOT posted here. Vicki has set up a board exclusively for the discussion of unpublished excerpts and you can find it here: Excerpt board, so please visit there for all the spoiler discussions you can possibly ever want! Thank you. (But it is ok to post notices here when there is a new excerpt to keep us informed.)

For those who are interested in reading some of Herself's thoughts in her own words,
here is a link to her folder at the Books and Writers Community at: Compuserve. You do not need to register to read the messages. Be aware that it is possible that you may come across spoilers.

Herself also has a blog. You can read and comment, if you'd like, at: Voyages of the Artemis.

To catch up on recorded interviews and/or appearances by our favorite author, check out her YouTube channel by clicking: Voyagesoftheartemis' Channel.

The message boards at LOL are for those 18 years of age and older. While we cannot monitor the boards, we expect people to honour this request because you are people of integrity. If you have any questions about WHY there is an age restriction, please click on "Contact forum admin" link above and send an e-mail. Thank you!

  • QOTD for Monday September 21, 2009 The following quote is taken from A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon, chapter Epilogue 1 Lallybroch Copyright© 2005 by Diana Gabaldon. All rights reserved. -- LisaW, 21:26:54 09/20/09 Sun
“The beeswax cracked and split away easily; the lid of the box, though, was unwilling to yield after so many years. It took both of them—one clutching the box, the other pushing and pulling on the lid—but finally, it came free with a small squealing noise.

The ghost of a scent floated out; something indistinguishable, but plantlike in origin.

    “Mama,” she said involuntarily.”

  • Don't know if this has been discussed or not, but I just re-read it and am curious. In DIA, after J &C meet Alexander Randall and Claire has the dream where Frank gives the lecture about the painted miniatures of J&C (it's in chapter 10 if that's any help). Are the miniature portraits the ones that Bree paints later on in TFC or in ABOSAA? It just seems so coincidental...Bree creates these two miniatures of Jamie and Claire, and then Claire dreams about Frank lecturing about them. Like, after she got back and while Frank was researching about J&C in the 1700s, he came across these portraits of his wife and her other husband painted by his daughter. Is Claire able to travel in dreams as well. or is this all just a huge coincidence that makes no sense at all??? Have I missed the mark entirely? or is my desperation to get to AEITB so great that my mind is making this stuff up? ;-) -- Froggielady Lori, 18:21:03 09/20/09 Sun

    'I love you.'"

  • My book's in! I was just 5 minutes into my busride home when they called. If they'd just called 10 minutes sooner, I'd have made a beeline to my bookstore and caught a later bus. But it's in early! I'm so excited. And I live in Bermuda. I thought I'd get it later than anyone else. It's going to be a great weekend. -- Lisa L., 14:28:50 09/17/09 Thu

"His mouth twitched, not quite a smile. 'It canna hurt much worse than it does. Get on wi' it.' Sweat was pouring out on my own face now. Resetting a shoulder joint is hard work at the best of times. Done on a large man who had gone hours since the dislocation, his muscles now swollen and pulling on the joint, the job was taking all the strength I had. The fire was dangerously close; I hoped we wouldn't both topple in, if the joint went back with a jerk."

"I could say that my field of vision contracted to a single dark spot, then disappeared all together, leaving not darkness, but a bright void. I could say that I felt as though I were spinning, or as though I were being pulled inside out. • TFC and Roger and Morag -- Lady JenF, 09:55:45 09/14/09 Mon
I started my reread last Fall and am halfway through TFC. I hate getting to Roger's hanging. I can only read a few pages at a time until I get through it. It made me think of the recent post about questions we want answered. I would like to know what happened to Morag and if we will meet her again. Half jokingly, I hope she killed her husband after what he did to Roger and sailed back to Scotland. At some point her baby, Jemmy, has to get back to Scotland in order for him to be Roger's ancestor in Scotland. Thoughts?

  • Woo Hoo - I just read DG's blog. She comes to Halifax, NS on Oct 13 - AND she is speaking and Q&A !! I'm so excited. Last time I drove 4 hrs to see her and it was just a book signing. Not that I was complaining, I was just so happy to meet her. I phoned the book store there about a week ago and asked if she was only doing a signing again and they had not heard yet. I'm making the 4 hr drive again for sure now. -- BrendaW, 12:16:27 09/10/09 Thu

    Some news to tell !!!

Herself has updates on her blog (see link above) with 2 more pages from the Graphic Novel, which finally has a titel - THE EXILE (An OUTLANDER graphic novel).

Furthermore, this is not only the month we will get the much wanted 7th volume of our beloved series (and I do not think I have to show you that cover ;o), there are also a new French and a new Italian book - Une Odeur de Soufre (Lord John and the Hand of Devils) and La Croce di Fuoco (The Fiery Cross, part 1).
And while I was browsing around for updates I came across those two Frech-Canadian editions of the Lord John books.

une odeur de soufre   la croce di fuoco   une affaire privee   la confrerie de l'epee

I love all these covers, but why have the to put women on the Lord John covers?

So, that's that. As always, more updates in the Gallery

    See you next week.
    Carmen
