• An update and another request -- Lady_Jane, 19:39:16 04/17/13 Wed
  First - the good news. I spent a lovely hour after school today speaking with the young man who lost his fingers. His attitude is just unbelievable. He's back at school, he's running for track, he's adjusting and his personality seems not a bit changed. He's truly a miracle kid, and it was encouraging to hear all his plans for after graduation.
  
  Unfortunately, I have another senior going through some major family tragedy. Her mom's brother is being questioned in the death of her aunt. So far it's being called a drowning, but there was an argument in a car before she disappeared. She's been missing since last weekend, and they just found her last night in the river. My student is understandably heartbroken...and her family is literally going through hell trying to plan the funeral, figure out what is going on, support her uncle, etc. I'd rather not give any more details, but I'd ask for the power of the Kirk to support this young lady.
  
  Finally, one of my best friends at school (who is my mom's age) was admitted to the hospital today after lunch for heart pains. The blood tests show that she did not have a heart attack, but she is in overnight and they are doing a stress test tomorrow. To say this year has been stressful is an understatement as she is our union president, and our new super is...well, to be polite...less than pleasant to deal with.
  
  You all are the best...even more so because in times of trouble you come out and support others rather than hiding under cover! I'm seriously thinking of putting my own head in the sand until July or so!

  Wasn't going to post but things come in three's and I just read the two below I believe I'm third....Mom called last night to tell me step father Paul has to have a heart catherization next week and will likely undergo open heart surgery very soon to repair some mitral valve damage that has worsened. She doesn't want me to come as right now its only one day for the catherization but I think I should be with her its a long day to sit through and I don't like the thought of her being alone....this follows her just nursing him back to health from knee replacement surgery AND she was preparing to have her second cornea transplant in May which will now most likely be postponed until Paul recovers.

  Please pray for my DS's friend and his family. Yesterday his father died suddenly at the age of 45. He leaves behind a wife and four kids. This man started up an Insureance Company from scratch and had become very successful, but he stayed true to himself, putting his family first. His employees say he believed in working hard, but also playing hard. He had no ego, and in this day and age that is truly rare.

  A dear local friend had her father go into hospice 6 days ago...they were told it would be less than a day before he passed when he went in, and he's still hanging on. He is riddled with cancer and half the man he was just a few short months ago.
  
  She is so distraught by this. Feeling how inhumane his last days are, and that if he was a pet it would be more merciful. She texted me today "his body is completely broken down yet his heart is strong." She describes it as a "living nightmare"
  
  Please pray for a peaceful passing for him...that he can just let go...and for his children that are watching him disappear in tiny bits.

  Over the past few weeks he's been having chest discomfort (sub-heartburn) during exercise, mildly increasing. He went in to get it checked out on Tuesday and and was immediately admitted to the hospital. Of people diagnosed with heart disease, one third are like Walter with what the cardiologist described as the "check engine" light, one third have heart attacks and heart damage and then get care, and one third have a fatal heart attack. So be attentive to those little signs - Walter is luckier than the other two thirds. Still, it's a big deal and we're a little freaked out.
