Another Prayer Request -- SueW, 09:48:17 06/01/12 Fri
So on Wednesday, I went to my GYN, who took out my ovaries and tubes back in late March. I told him I'd been feeling something weird in my lower right abdomen, really more pressure than pain, the last few weeks. It comes and goes, but I notice it more in the evening and when I'm trying to get to sleep.

He poked around until it hurt, then announced the pain isn't in the soft tissue, but in the bone (pelvis). Nifty. Since that's not his area, he kicked me back to Oncology (not literally, I'm happy to say). I have a bone scan scheduled for Monday and will get the results next Friday.

Please don't mention this on Facebook, okay?

BTW, all those who prayed for my grandmother after her fall and broken ribs might like to know that we'll be going to her 95th birthday party this weekend at her favorite restaurant, Red Lobster. She's doing GREAT!

This morning I received the dreaded phone call that my father passed away this morning. He has been ill for some time and even though we knew it wasn't to be long, you're never prepared for the call. He has battled congestive heart failure for years. He has suffered so much that it is a relief that he is at peace. But that doesn't stop the pain. I'm getting ready to head to their house to be with the family. It is a blessing that in the last week each of his eight children have been there and spent time with him. He had a pretty good week and didn't start to go down til Saturday night. He was able to spend his last days in the home that he so lovingly built and with those he loved. Please pray for my family, especially my step mother who was married to him for close to 45 yrs. They have been each others air and I know that she's going to take it hard. I know I will draw strength from knowing that all of you are there.

Some of the Massachusetts and Connecticut hosers may have heard this already (it was in the New York Post, too), but could I please ask for prayers for Officer Kevin Ambrose and his family? Officer Ambrose was killed in the line of duty earlier this week responding to a domestic violence call. He was shot twice, the woman he was trying to protect was also shot and somehow survived (and is critical but stable), and the shooter, a corrections officer at Rikers, turned the gun on himself. It is the first cop-killing in this area in more than 30 years and has really shaken everyone up. Both my brothers, as well as an uncle, are cops, and I have to admit that this sort of thing is one of my greatest terrors.

Mourners are lining up as I type this to pay their respects at his wake, and Officer Ambrose, a 36-year veteran of the force, will be laid to rest tomorrow. Please just keep him and all the other "boys in blue" that protect the streets in your thoughts.

- Prayers of protection for your brothers are winging. The city I live in has only 1 cop for every 400 people. The cities directly bordering it have a ratio of 1 cop for every three people. Guess where most of the violent criminals in the area live. I'm an embattled public servant doing the job with zero support and inadequate resources, but it's extremely unlikely that I'll die on the job, or possibly kill someone while I'm on the job (I won't say it isn't tempting, sometimes). Matt has met many Hosers from going to Grandfather Mt and Fergus several times. I've spoken of him on the kirk too. So many of his LallyAunties & Angels helped him when he had a terrible break in his arm years ago. He was 12 at the time, he's now 21. We need your prayers and energy and strength again.

Matthew has battled his weight for years. Tomorrow he goes in for Gastric Bypass. He is excited and scared and nervous, but very hopeful. I am horribly SCARED and riddled with guilt. The 'What Ifs' are choking me. I had a friend that has done it tell me it's a deal with the devil. That the surgery is a breeze but the rest of your life is what's hard. That has me even more terrified. I pray he has the maturity to do what he needs to do to have a healthy life.

Please say a prayer that he comes through the surgery fine and it is the help he needs to get his life going. He is such a great kid. Like any and every mom I just want him to be happy and healthy. <3

- ((((((((Tam and Matt))))))) Praying for you! I really feel that this surgery saved my mom's life but she didn't keep all the weight off. There are some deep emotional issues for her concerning her wieght that she has never addressed. She had it done before they did it lapriscopically and she has a severe hernia. Also, she has to take a lot of vitamin supplements because her body doesn't absorb enough out of her regular diet. Now my best friend from High School had it done a few years ago. She was always very heavy and now she is at a healthy wieght and enjoying life so much more. It was like she was reborn! From what she has said, it is a lot of work regarding meal prep and planning because you have to be very choosy about what you decide to eat, so that you get the maximum nutritional value. She lost a lot of hair after her surgery because she couldn't eat enough protein. I pray that Matt will get a boost from the weight loss and he will take it from there to keep loosing and get fit! - I have several friends who have had it and say that it was the best decision they ever made. Yes it's hard and you have to change your whole lifestyle but the benefits are so worth it. - You will be amazed at how much weight he will loose...and quickly. Just be prepared. He has to listen to his body and follow the doctor's guidelines exactly. I had 2 good friends (husband and wife) do this not that long ago...and they are much older than your boy and both are diabetics and did great. - I am a director of a Bariatric program, and we work extremely hard as a team to support our patients for the rest of their lives, if they will let us! There can be complications, but by following guidelines set by the program and asking for and taking help when needed, patients do fantastically well. I'll tell you, I have the best job ever.....we have a patient right now who has lost 225 lbs since January (he was 575 to begin with) AND IS A NEW PERSON. Every time he comes in, we all cry. He's doing things he never dreamed he could do again, the foremost being able to be active with his daughter. He will be coaching her softball team this summer. - UPDATE: Matt is out of surgery and in recovery. We can see him in about 2 hours in ICU. Doc said it went well and he saw no other problems. They were able to do the regular bypass.     - I asked the surgeon about taking the gallbladder out while he was in there and he said he doesn't do that. The nurse that admitted him said she thought he should. - UPDATE 2: He is in the STEP DOWN/ICU unit. I'm staying the night. He is having a hard time keeping his oxygen where they want it. His repiration is low due to his size and having a hard time coming out from under the anesthesia haze. My friend's DH, Ron, had a tumor removed Tuesday from his bladder. It is cancer, but the lab results will determine the stage and if it is in the wall muscle of the bladder. It could be a cystoscopy every 3 months or removal of the bladder. Please send up some healing vibes/prayers that it is treatable!!! As always my thoughts and prayers are with the Kirk on a daily basis.

and asking for some special prayers for a student of mine. His father killed his mother this past week. They were estranged, but he was still living in the house b/c of the 4 kids - but she had moved on with another man. The boyfriend called the dad to meet him at a field, and both mom and boyfriend were there. Dad snapped, killed mom by running over her (from what my students say, he aimed for boyfriend and mom jumped in the way) then turned and hit the boyfriend, seriously injuring him. It is a horrible situation - dad (up to this point) was the nicest guy you'd ever meet. There are four kids, no family to speak of (most of the boy's extended family lives in Texas or Mexico).

After the school year ends, the four children will be moving in with an "aunt" (not sure if she's actually blood related) but they have to move to a different city and will be attending a school that is at least 4 times as big as ours. His siblings are in 7th, 4th and 2nd grade, so Julian -as a sophomore - is essentially the "grown up" now. Dad is in jail awaiting trial, and my heart just breaks for the kids. The visitation was today, and the thing that saddened me even more was how few people there were. I have no idea what kind (if any) support system Julian has, and they will all need so much extra love!

Emily Whitehead is doing great! And she's coming home hopefully tomorrow. She's doing so well in her therapy that they think she'll benefit from coming straight home instead of to rehab hospital. They have been in the hospital since February, and specifically at Philly since the beginning of March except for 24 hours right before she got her Tcells that she got to come home. All of her tests are showing good results and it sounds as if she's ready for summer. Glad to see it happen for her and her family. - On the tenth anniversary of our wedding, his daughter, Erin, and I took Ed's ashes to the creek that flowed in the woods behind where I was living. He would have liked that ~ it is a stream where the salmon find their way up from the sea and through a city to spawn a new generation. It shouldn't be there but it is, a symbol of the persistence of life. Handful by handful we talked about our memories, our love and released each one as a white swirl whirling along with the stream and disappearing into the green stillness. . At one point we talked of missing him and an owl hooted. And later, when we turned to go, the owl hooted again. We knew we weren't alone. It has been a really rough year at my new job. I have gotten good reviews but there is lots wrong at this school including the person that is my assistant but is NOT employed by the school system (long story) Anyway I have an opportunity to interview for a middle school job tomorrow in our same school system --it is math support which is a bit scary as I have only done special ed english and my current job which is all subjects but I would really love middle school and back to LD type students.

Well, first and foremost, my father has lung cancer and is losing weight rapidly. The Dr doesn't know how long he has but is telling the family that he might have a chance to beat it with chemo treatment. I really need the Lallyland prayers for his recovery. Being an optimist, I refuse to acknowledge that he will be gone until he actually passes to the better life. (Although being a realist also tempers my optimism.) It's a good attitude that will help encourage him.
Secondly, I just lost my job today. Although I showed undisputed quality and excellence in my call center work with Medco, I couldn't meet their minimal average handling time expectations after a year's work with them, so they "involuntarily" terminated me. I started a new job search. Hopefully something will come up soon. Pray for me to find gainful employment.

- My first thought was : Katrina is a multiple personality... Since I'm not sure, they really exist, I think there are two possibilities. 1. She does have a psychological problem. 2. She decided, she wants to rent the cottage to someone else, as you already concluded. The situation is weird. I'd be much more worried though, had you written that you have put in t ime or money for improvement of the cottage. Without a written/signed agreement, you won't get far with the rent board. I have just come back from my brother's grave. Today it's been 2 years since he comitted suicide. I still can't believe it.
I am very grateful, I know why he did it - and I do understand. Still, I don't want it to be true - I miss him so much. He was godfather to my eldest and agreed to do the same for our little one. This didn't happen, though, and we still haven't baptized Marun. I just can't have this done without my brother.
He was the one person who new me from the beginning and was supposed to be there quite until the end - but he's gone...

Last Sunday, my DS woke up with a large lump in his earlobe. It was red and purple, swollen, hard and painful. He has a tendency to develop boils and has had numerous outbreaks with multiple boils before, but never one on or near the face. Our at-home treatments had no effect, and the lump kept getting larger and harder and more painful. It now looks like someone stuck a walnut in the shell in his earlobe, and the swelling has spread past his ear. DS went to the doctor's on Wednesday, who took one look and sent him across the street to a ear, nose and throat specialist at the hospital. That doc tried to drain it, but there were no fluids of any kind present. He gave him some very strong antibiotics, and we are now waiting for him to be scheduled for a CAT scan, because the doc wants to see exactly what and all that is involved.
So, send some good vibes to my DS as he waits and worries. It may turn out to be a cyst, and may have to be surgically removed, but we will deal with that if it comes to pass. I am hoping that is all it is. Thank you, my friends.

- UPDATE: Well, things are looking better. What he has is a sebaceous cyst in his earlobe which became abscessed. If you have the stomach for it, Google it and you'll find a photo in Wikipedia of another young man's earlobe, although the cyst DS had was larger and much more colorful. *shudder* Anyway, the thing finally broke early Saturday morning, and drained for two days. I will spare you the rest of the gory details. DS still has the cyst, which will have to be surgically removed, but now that the infection is under control he is feeling much better. LEARN, TRY, STAY, CARE.
First, life is worthwhile if you LEARN. What you don't know WILL hurt you. You have to have learning to exist, let alone succeed. Life is worthwhile if you learn from your own experiences�negative or positive. We learn to do it right by first sometimes doing it wrong. We call that a positive negative. We also learn from other people's experiences, both positive and negative.�Learning from other people's experiences and mistakes is valuable information because we can learn what not to do without the pain of having tried and failed ourselves.
We learn by what we see, so pay attention. We learn by what we hear, so be a good listener. Now I do suggest that you should be a selective listener, don't just let anybody dump into your mental factory. We learn from what we read so learn from every source; learn from lectures; learn from songs; learn from sermons; learn from conversations with people who care. Always keep learning.

Second, life is worthwhile if you TRY. You can't just learn; now you have to try something to see if you can do it. Try to make a difference, try to make some progress, try to learn a new skill, try to learn a new sport. It doesn't mean you can do everything, but there are a lot of things you can do, if you just try. Try your best. Give it every effort. Why not go all out?

Third, life is worthwhile if you STAY. You have to stay from spring until harvest. If you have signed up for the day or for the game or for the project�see it through. Sometimes calamity comes and then it is worth wrapping it up. And that's the end, but just don't end in the middle. Maybe on the next project you pass, but on this one, if you signed up, see it through.

And lastly, life is worthwhile if you CARE. If you care at all you will get some results, if you care enough you can get incredible results. Care enough to make a difference. Care enough to turn somebody around. Care enough to start a new enterprise. Care enough to change it all. Care enough to be the highest producer. Care enough to set some records. After an appointment with her surgeon, and a phone call with her oncologist, Mum has decided to stop the chemo. She has had it for three months, but hasn't tolerated it from the start. She has also had continuing nausea, vomitting and abdominal pain for the three months that gets worse after each treatment. Long story short, the 'cure' seems worse than the disease, and chemo only provides a 20% chance of the cancer not returning - not good odds for something that has caused her so much suffering.

Just found out this morning that my co-worker Deb's 18 year old grandson commited suicide by hanging last night. I've known Deb and her family for most of my life and consider her not just a co-worker but a friend. Her son and daughter in-law are also people I consider friends. I just can't believe this has happened, I'm still in shock and I can't even imagine what his poor family is going thru, his mother must be devastated. He was just getting ready to graduate high school and join the Navy. I had just seen him a month ago and he seemed fine but I guess you just never know what a person is dealing with inside. Please keep Deb and her family in your thoughts and prayers, I know they'll need them over the next few weeks. Thank you.
