I guess it is easier to give someone up to a physical disease, because we know there's nothing we can do about it (it is UNFAIR, but we can't help). Suicide is something we think we could have avoided; these thoughts usually start with "if he only had talked to me/If I only had known more...". Our priest said something about that, that was very helpful to me. He said, "We like to think, we are almighty, thinking we can prevent our loved ones from comitting suicide, but we are not." (He, too, lost a sister that way, so he's not only looking at suicide from his professional point of view...). I guess he is right, because those who decide to leave us that way, usually carry the idea inside themselves for quite some time and there is nothing we can do about it. If they feel they can't take anymore - they simply "leave" - as it is their solution to what's troubling them. Having learned about what was troubling my brother I came to the conclusion, that he had the right to give up...
