Subject: Another watch has ended, rest in peace.

Some of the Massachusetts and Connecticut hosers may have heard this already (it was in the New York Post, too), but could I please ask for prayers for Officer Kevin Ambrose and his family? Officer Ambrose was killed in the line of duty earlier this week responding to a domestic violence call. He was shot twice, the woman he was trying to protect was also shot and somehow survived (and is critical but stable), and the shooter, a corrections officer at Rikers, turned the gun on himself. It is the first cop-killing in this area in more than 30 years and has really shaken everyone up. Both my brothers, as well as an uncle, are cops, and I have to admit that this sort of thing is one of my greatest terrors.

Mourners are lining up as I type this to pay their respects at his wake, and Officer Ambrose, a 36-year veteran of the force, will be laid to rest tomorrow. Please just keep him and all the other "boys in blue" that protect the streets in your thoughts.

[> Prayers of protection for your brothers are winging. The city I live in has only 1 cop for every 400 people. The cities directly bordering it have a ratio of 1 cop for every three people. Guess where most of the violent criminals in the area live. I'm an embattled public servant doing the job with zero support and inadequate resources, but it's extremely unlikely that I'll die on the job, or possibly kill someone while I'm on the job (I won't say it isn't tempting, sometimes). My heart always goes out to every police officer who dies on the job, ditto fire fighters. -- Lemora, 16:24:05 06/07/12 Thu

[> So sad, tragic and senseless. I work in Philadelphia and we went through a few minths where a police officier was killed every few weeks, usually by someone committing a crime. It's heartbreaking! Prayers of protection for your brothers, uncle and all others who serve. -- TerriC, 18:10:27 06/07/12 Thu

[> Those folks on the thin blue line, the ones who hold back the flames, and the ones who stave off the enemies at our gates hold a special place in our hearts. They chose to stand, despite the peril, for the safety of others. The very definition of a hero. Comfort those that knew this man and light a candle, because the world is a little darker today. -- Dave, 05:54:14 06/08/12 Fri

[> Prayers and light being sent to the families. Such men and women are hero's who protect and serve then lose their lives in the line of duty. -- Bandruidh, 08:51:27 06/09/12 Sat
